JHM Homes of Honor welcomes interest from individuals, families, churches, businesses, civic groups, skilled tradespeople, students, and community members who want to support our mission through service.

This Volunteer Disclaimer / Volunteer Interest Notice explains important expectations, limitations, safety rules, and Arizona-related volunteer considerations for individuals who submit a volunteer interest form, participate in volunteer activities, attend a project site, assist with events, or support JHM Homes of Honor in any volunteer capacity.

By submitting a volunteer interest form, attending a volunteer activity, entering a project site, or participating in any volunteer role connected to JHM Homes of Honor, you acknowledge and understand the following.

1. Volunteer Interest Does Not Guarantee Placement

​

Submitting a volunteer interest form does not guarantee approval, acceptance, placement, scheduling, participation, or ongoing volunteer opportunities.

​

Volunteer participation may depend on:

​

• Current project needs

• Volunteer age

• Availability

• Skill level

• Physical ability

• Transportation

• Project location

• Safety requirements

• Screening requirements

• Training or orientation needs

• Tools, materials, or equipment needed

• Weather or site conditions

• Recipient privacy

• Property access

• Supervision capacity

• Leadership approval

• Organizational capacity

JHM Homes of Honor reserves the right to approve, decline, limit, delay, pause, cancel, or discontinue volunteer participation at its discretion.

2. Arizona Volunteer Liability Notice

​

Arizona law provides certain qualified protections for volunteers serving nonprofit organizations. Under Arizona Revised Statutes § 12-982, a volunteer may be immune from civil liability for acts or omissions resulting in damage or injury when the volunteer acts in good faith, within the scope of the volunteer’s official functions and duties for a nonprofit organization, and the damage or injury is not caused by willful, wanton, or grossly negligent misconduct.

This notice does not promise that any specific volunteer, activity, project, or situation will qualify for immunity.

​

Volunteer immunity laws may not protect against all claims, may not protect intentional misconduct or gross negligence, and may not protect the organization itself in every situation. Volunteers must still follow all safety rules, instructions, project limits, and conduct expectations.

3. No Employment, Contractor, or Agency Relationship

​

Volunteer participation does not create an employment relationship, contractor relationship, vendor relationship, agency relationship, partnership, joint venture, or paid position with JHM Homes of Honor.

​

Volunteers are not employees of JHM Homes of Honor and are not entitled to wages, salary, benefits, unemployment benefits, contractor payments, employee protections, or reimbursement unless a separate written agreement has been approved by JHM Homes of Honor.

​

Any paid work, contractor work, professional service, or vendor relationship must be separately reviewed, approved, and documented in writing.

​

4. Volunteer Roles May Vary

​

Volunteer opportunities may include, but are not limited to:

​

• Community outreach

• Event support

• Donation drives

• Administrative support

• Volunteer day support

• Supply sorting

• Light cleanup

• Yard or exterior assistance

• Non-skilled project support

• Photography or storytelling support, when authorized

• Sponsor or partner support

• Skilled trade support, only when properly approved

• Other mission-aligned service activities

Not all volunteer roles involve direct repair work. Some roles may be administrative, outreach-based, event-based, preparation-based, or behind the scenes.

​

5. Screening, Orientation, and Approval

​

JHM Homes of Honor may require volunteers to complete one or more steps before participating, including:

​

• Volunteer interest form

• Orientation

• Safety briefing

• Liability waiver

• Volunteer agreement

• Media release

• Confidentiality acknowledgment

• Code of conduct acknowledgment

• Background check, when appropriate

• Reference check, when appropriate

• Skills verification, when appropriate

• Parent or guardian consent for minors

• Project-specific instructions

JHM Homes of Honor may decline or remove a volunteer if required information is incomplete, inaccurate, unsafe, inappropriate, or inconsistent with the organization’s mission, policies, insurance requirements, project needs, or safety standards.

​

6. Safety Notice and Assumption of Risk

​

Volunteer activities may involve risk. Activities may include physical labor, outdoor work, heat exposure, dust, debris, uneven ground, ladders, tools, construction materials, noise, lifting, bending, walking, cleaning, carrying items, working near vehicles, or being present at a property where repair needs exist.

​

By participating, volunteers acknowledge that risks may include:

​

• Physical injury

• Illness

• Heat-related illness

• Slips, trips, or falls

• Cuts, scrapes, or bruises

• Tool-related injuries

• Lifting injuries

• Property damage

• Weather exposure

• Contact with dust, pests, mold, debris, or other site conditions

• Transportation-related risks

• Unexpected hazards

Volunteers are responsible for using good judgment, following instructions, and declining tasks they believe are unsafe or beyond their ability, training, or assigned role.

JHM Homes of Honor may require a separate liability waiver before participation.

​

7. Arizona Heat and Outdoor Work Awareness

​

Because JHM Homes of Honor may operate in Arizona, volunteers should take heat exposure seriously.

​

Volunteers participating in outdoor activities should use appropriate precautions, including:

​

• Drinking water before, during, and after service

• Wearing weather-appropriate clothing

• Using sun protection when needed

• Taking rest breaks

• Reporting dizziness, weakness, confusion, nausea, headache, or overheating

• Stopping work immediately if they feel unsafe or ill

JHM Homes of Honor may pause, reschedule, limit, or cancel volunteer activities due to heat, weather, air quality, unsafe site conditions, or other safety concerns.

​

8. Physical Ability and Personal Responsibility

​

Volunteer activities may require physical effort. Volunteers are responsible for deciding whether they are physically able to participate.

​

Volunteers should not perform tasks that may put their health, safety, or well-being at risk. Volunteers with medical concerns, physical limitations, allergies, breathing issues, mobility concerns, pregnancy-related concerns, or other health considerations should consult a qualified medical professional before participating in physical volunteer activities.

JHM Homes of Honor does not provide medical advice.

​

9. Tools, Equipment, Vehicles, and Skilled Work

​

Volunteers may not use tools, power tools, ladders, machinery, chemicals, vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, electrical equipment, or construction materials unless specifically authorized and properly supervised.

Skilled work may include:

​

• Electrical work

• Plumbing

• Roofing

• Structural work

• HVAC

• Gas-related work

• Major repairs

• Work requiring permits

• Work requiring licensing or inspection

Skilled work may only be performed by approved qualified individuals, licensed professionals, insured contractors, or authorized service partners when required.

​

JHM Homes of Honor may restrict tasks based on safety, insurance, licensing, permits, skill level, project requirements, or leadership discretion.

​

10. Minors and Youth Volunteers

​

Volunteers under the age of 18 may require written parent or guardian consent before participating.

​

Youth volunteer opportunities may be limited based on:

​

• Age

• Project type

• Safety risks

• Supervision needs

• Insurance requirements

• Tools or equipment involved

• Transportation

• Location

• Time of day

• Recipient privacy

• Organizational capacity

Minors may not be permitted to participate in certain repair, construction, cleanup, transportation, tool-related, or project-site activities.

​

Parents, guardians, schools, churches, or youth group leaders may be required to provide supervision and remain responsible for minors during volunteer activities.

11. Conduct Expectations

Volunteers are expected to act with respect, kindness, patience, professionalism, honesty, and care.

Volunteers must not:

• Harass, threaten, bully, discriminate against, or mistreat others

• Use offensive or disrespectful language

• Ignore safety instructions

• Enter private areas without permission

• Take photos or videos without authorization

• Share private recipient information

• Damage property

• Use alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, or impairing substances during service

• Arrive impaired or unsafe to participate

• Bring weapons or dangerous items to project sites

• Misrepresent JHM Homes of Honor

• Solicit personal business without approval

• Make promises on behalf of JHM Homes of Honor

• Accept money, gifts, or side payments from recipients without approval

• Perform work outside the assigned scope

• Invite unauthorized people to a project site

JHM Homes of Honor may remove a volunteer for misconduct, safety concerns, privacy violations, policy violations, or behavior inconsistent with the mission.

​

12. Recipient Privacy and Dignity

​

JHM Homes of Honor serves people and households with dignity and respect.

​

Volunteers may encounter private information about recipients, homes, families, health, finances, property conditions, safety concerns, or personal circumstances.

​

Volunteers must protect recipient privacy. Volunteers may not share names, addresses, personal stories, photos, documents, home details, or identifying information without authorization from JHM Homes of Honor.

​

Recipients should never be treated as publicity opportunities, charity cases, or projects. Every person and household must be treated with dignity, honor, and respect.

​

13. Photos, Videos, and Media

​

Volunteers may not take or share photos, videos, livestreams, recordings, interviews, social media posts, before-and-after content, or project-site media without approval from JHM Homes of Honor.

​

Media content may require permission from recipients, homeowners, volunteers, sponsors, contractors, or other individuals involved.

​

JHM Homes of Honor may use approved photos, videos, volunteer highlights, project updates, sponsor recognition, and community stories for mission-related communication, donor updates, newsletters, website content, social media, and impact reporting.

​

Volunteers may be asked to sign a media release before appearing in public content.

​

14. Confidentiality

​

Volunteers may be asked to keep certain information confidential, including:

​

• Recipient names

• Home addresses

• Personal stories

• Project details

• Donation information

• Sponsor information

• Internal documents

• Leadership decisions

• Safety concerns

• Photos or videos

• Volunteer records

• Contractor or vendor information

• Applicant information

Confidential information may not be shared outside JHM Homes of Honor without permission.

​

15. No Authority to Make Promises

​

Volunteers may not make promises, guarantees, approvals, offers, commitments, public statements, or decisions on behalf of JHM Homes of Honor unless specifically authorized.

​

Volunteers may not promise:

​

• That a person will receive help

• That a repair will be completed

• That a project will be approved

• That a timeline is guaranteed

• That a contractor will be hired

• That a donation will go to a specific project

• That JHM Homes of Honor will pay for anything

• That a sponsor will receive specific recognition

​

All official decisions must come from authorized JHM Homes of Honor leadership.

​

16. Scheduling, Cancellation, and Site Access

​

Volunteer opportunities may be scheduled based on project needs, recipient availability, contractor availability, volunteer availability, weather, funding, materials, safety, and organizational capacity.

​

JHM Homes of Honor may cancel, reschedule, postpone, limit, or modify volunteer activities with or without advance notice.

​

Volunteers may not enter a project site, recipient home, private property, storage area, or work area unless authorized.

​

17. Transportation and Personal Property

​

Volunteers are generally responsible for their own transportation to and from volunteer activities unless other arrangements are approved in writing.

​

JHM Homes of Honor is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property, vehicles, tools, devices, clothing, bags, or personal belongings brought to a volunteer activity.

​

Volunteers should avoid bringing valuables to volunteer sites.

​

18. Background Checks and Sensitive Roles

​

Some volunteer roles may require a background check, especially roles involving:

​

• Access to private homes

• Contact with vulnerable individuals

• Access to personal information

• Handling donations or funds

• Working with minors

• Transportation

• Leadership responsibilities

• Photography or records

• Skilled work

• Site supervision

A background check does not guarantee acceptance. JHM Homes of Honor may consider safety, trust, role requirements, organizational risk, and applicable requirements when reviewing volunteer eligibility.

​

19. Reimbursement and Expenses

Volunteers should not expect reimbursement for mileage, fuel, parking, meals, childcare, transportation, clothing, tools, equipment, supplies, or other expenses unless reimbursement has been approved in writing before the expense is incurred.

​

Unauthorized purchases or expenses may not be reimbursed.

​

20. Donations and In-Kind Contributions by Volunteers

​

Volunteers may also choose to donate, sponsor, or provide in-kind support. Such donations are voluntary and are governed by the JHM Homes of Honor Donation Policy.

​

Volunteer participation is not required in order to donate, and donations are not required in order to volunteer.

​

JHM Homes of Honor may decline in-kind goods or services that do not fit current needs, safety requirements, insurance requirements, legal requirements, storage capacity, or mission priorities.

​

21. Volunteer Records and Communications

​

JHM Homes of Honor may maintain volunteer records for communication, scheduling, screening, training, safety, project documentation, impact tracking, acknowledgments, insurance, and organizational reporting.

​

By submitting volunteer information, volunteers agree that JHM Homes of Honor may contact them by email, phone, text message, mail, or other appropriate methods about volunteer opportunities, project updates, scheduling, safety instructions, forms, or organizational updates.

​

Volunteer information is handled according to the JHM Homes of Honor Privacy Policy.

22. Removal or Discontinuation of Volunteer Participation

​

JHM Homes of Honor may remove, suspend, decline, or discontinue volunteer participation at any time.

​

Reasons may include:

​

• Safety concerns

• Failure to follow instructions

• Misconduct

• Harassment or disrespectful behavior

• Privacy violations

• Unapproved media use

• Misrepresentation

• Incomplete forms

• Screening concerns

• Conflict of interest

• Lack of project need

• Organizational capacity

• Violation of policies

• Behavior inconsistent with the mission

 

23. Liability Waiver May Be Required

This notice is not a full liability waiver.

​

Before participating in certain volunteer activities, volunteers may be required to sign a separate Volunteer Agreement, Liability Waiver, Assumption of Risk, Media Release, Confidentiality Agreement, Code of Conduct, or project-specific safety acknowledgment.

​

Refusal to sign required documents may result in denial of volunteer participation.

​

24. Governing Law

​

This Volunteer Disclaimer / Volunteer Interest Notice is intended to be governed by the laws of the State of Arizona to the extent applicable.

​

If any part of this notice is found unenforceable, the remaining sections should remain in effect to the fullest extent allowed by law.
